ARMSTRONG'S SMOKE-N-GUN
DASHIN TRU GRIT x DASHIN CAJUN SPICE
I was born to my parents “Dashin Tru Grit” and “Dashin Cajun Spice” the summer of 2006 in the state of Arkansas. It wasn’t until a few months later that I found my true home at GunRunner Gondogs. My registered name is “Armstrong’s Smoke -N- Gun” but everyone calls me “Smokey”. As a puppy I was never shy and the smell of caged gamebirds always intrigued me whenever, I came in contact with them. The overwhelming scents of those birds consumed my thoughts and soon sent me into an instinctive, excited puppy hunting mode. When I started my training a few months later, I learned to curb this excitement and listen to commands when they were given to me. My best quality is without a doubt, my sharp mind! I have always learned fast and the ability to do so, advanced my skills to a high level in a relatively short amount of time. I'm also a very versatile dog. You can hunt me in the morning on a plantation style quail hunt and then turn around and run me that same day in a competition field trial. In February 2009 at Town Creek Alabama, I competed in my very first UFTA National event. This trial is the largest field trial in the country and in 2009 it brought together 120 dogs from all across the USA and Canada. I was excited to be there and egger to prove that I had what it took to be the best in the game. When the second day of qualifying was over, to everyone’s amazement I was sitting close to the top with the highest overall score for my two fields. Making the top 25 my first year was without a doubt a great accomplishment. However; the top 25 wasn’t my goal! I was there to make a name for myself and prove to all the (neigh-sayers), that I was capable of winning this whole shooting match. On the final day, I was able to silence the people who had previously doubted me. When I won the UFTA Amateur National Championship, I earned the right to have my name forever written inside the UFTA record book. Armstrong’s Smoke -N- Gun - Tournament Wins! 1.) Feb. 2008, UFTA “National Amateur Champion” 2.) 2nd Place 2009, Bama Bird Dog Club “UFTA - Amateur Division” 3.) 1st Place Oct. 2009, Heart of Dixie Club “UFTA - Amateur Division” 4.) 2nd Place Oct. 2009, Heart of Dixie Club “UFTA - Amateur Division” 5.) 1st place 2009, Bama Bird Dog Club “UFTA - Amateur Division”
ARMSTRONG'S ROUGH-N-ROWDY
COX'S MAJOR x ARMSTRONG'S CRACKER JACK ABBY
They say you can learn a lot about a dog by looking closley at the given name on their pedigree. However; I disagree with that statement because I don’t feel my name describes me well at all. For some reason, I'm named “Armsrtong's Rough-N-Rowdy” or just Rowdy for short. I'm not sure here my name derived from but I know that I’m not at all rowdy, nor am I a rough houser! I'm told I earned the name because I was a very active playful puppy. Regardless of the reason, if you want a dog with all the tools then I'm the dog for the job. What tool in my arsanol is my strongest? I think everyone would agree that my natural retreiving ability is far and away my strongest asset. Over the years I have learned that a wounded bird can fly a great distance before it finally expires. Most dogs will give up only after a short distance but if my handler will allow me the time and the room, more times than not I will return with the downed bird! I’m not sure my great retreiving skills are only a product of natural ability. As a matter of fact, I feel I retreave so well because Kenny once was a very poor shot. His shooting has vastly improved over the years but those early days are what really prepared me. It was very common for me to make at least one long retreave every trial we attended. Since those early days, his shooting has now improved to the point that I rarely get the chance to showcase how well I retreave. This past season at the 2009 UFTA Nationals I competed with my father “Cox’s Major” for the National Doubles Divison Championship. In this event two men and two dogs have 20 minutes to find and harvest 6 birds as quick as possible. The team with the fastest time and fewest amount of deductions, wins! This year the field consisted of 40 plus doubles teams from all over the USA and Canada. After a good semi qualifing run I felt our chances were pretty good to at least take home a trophy. I never in a million years dreamed I would share a National Champions stage with my very own father. That was a very special day, one I will never forget!! Armstrong’s Rough-N-Rowdy - Tournament Wins! 1.) 3rd Place March 2005, Alabama Quail Hunters (Spring Trial) “Derby Division” 2.) 2nd Place March 2006, Bama Bird Dog Club “UFTA - Amateur Division” 3.) 1st Place 2007, Bama Bird Dog Club “UFTA - Amateur Division” 4.) 1st Place 2007, Bama Bird Dog Club “UFTA - Amateur Division” 5.) 2nd Place 2007, Bama Bird Dog Club “UFTA - Amateur Division” 6.) 1st Place 2007, South Alabama Gun Dog Classic 7.) 2nd Place 2007, Bama Bird Dog Club “UFTA - Amateur Division” 8.) 2nd Place 2007, Bama Bird Dog Club “UFTA - Amateur Division” 9.) ARMSTRONG'S DOUBLE LEXX
COX'S MAJOR x ARMSTRONG'S CRACKER JACK ABBY
My name is "Armstrong's Double Lexx", but I answer to Lexx. I'm the son of Armstrong's Crackerjack Abby and Cox's Major. I hunt and field trial when and wherever possible but primarily I spend my days afield in the great state of Alabama. As a puppy I was the largest of a litter of nine, explaining my name "Double Lexx". I wasn't the most out going puppy, and some even said that I was a big lap baby. Because I was more laid back than my brothers and sisters some guys even said, that I might not make it in the field trialing circut. My goal in life is to disprove those who said that the best puppies in a litter are the most active ones. I was the fat lazy pup that everybody held but nobody wanted. However; now they all take note when I show up to play the field trial game!! My passion is life is hunting quail and even when I'm not in the field, my mind is never far way from my first love. I give a 150% every time I'm turned loose and it doesn't matter to me whether it is a trial or an actual hunting situation. I cover lots of ground and have an exceptional sense of smell that helps me find birds which other dogs miss. Come on out and watch me run!!!!! ARMSTRONG'S SAGEGRASS SADIE
COX'S MAJOR x ARMSTRONG'S CRACKER JACK ABBY
Mention my name and almost all the competitors within the UFTA field trial community know who I am. For those outside the circuit, just call me “Sadie”. I was born in the early hours of July-25-2005, along with eight other brothers and sisters. I stood out early as a puppy and soon became Kenny’s pick of the litter. I have always been gifted with what some call natural ability, so hunting has always been easy for me. I began to point at a real early age and by six weeks old I was rock solid on point. It was only a wing on a string but those early steady points, is what earned me my home here at GunRunner Kennels. What is my best quality? (I guess if I can only choose one), I would have to say my best quality is my nose! When the wind is calm or if a field has turned to poor scenting conditions, that is when I shine the most. I’m easy to handle and I always cover the ground with my head held high. Then when I do hit the scent cone of a quail, I slam on the brakes and display some of the most stylish points you will ever witness. I’m very steady on point and when the bird is bagged my retrieving is always flawless. I’m an avid upland field trialer and we regularlly travel accross the southeast looking for events where I can showcase my tallents. In Febuary 2006, I finally got a chance to showcase my ability at the UFTA Amateur Nationals. This trial brought together 75 of the best dogs from all over the country and no one gave me much hope at doing well. This was the largest event I had ever competed in and needless to say, I turned heads when I brought back home to Alabama the National Reserve Champion’s trophy. I have had some other great finishes since that day in 2006. However; winning that first National Reserve Champions trophy will always be something very special to both Kenny and me!!!
